We provide an excellent range of holistic and beauty therapies at Downe Health Spa located on the Hartland Peninsula in North Devon halfway between Bideford and Bude.
Our focus is the client’s well-being and care. To that end we have selected therapists who are good technical therapists with good people skills and then we have chosen a first class cosmetic product range. The cosmetic products used are based on seaweed harvested off the coast of Brittany, France. Seaweed is rich in vitamins and minerals and has a hydrating and nourishing effect. In every case the client has the undivided attention of the therapist for the duration of his or her therapy.

Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy Massage is a deeply relaxing and calming massage. It uses light touch and pressure points combined with theraputic essential oils, tailored for the client’s individual needs. The aromatherapy oils are obtained from plants, flowers and aromatic shrubs. They are mixed by our qualified aromatherapists following a consulation with each client .
A range of therapeutic massages are available which vary by the body areas treated.

Swedish Massage
Effleurage and petrissage techniques are used to warm the muscles of the body, increasing circulation to the muscles. Tension is then released using medium to firm pressure with frictions and percussion. Effleurage follows to soothe the muscles and drain toxins away.

A vigorous and penetrating full body massage that oxygenates and relieves tension from tight, hard-worked muscles using deep pressure. Drainage techniques also help to improve lymphatic flow releasing built up lactic acid and toxins from the body. Only appropriate for the client who has a high level of personal fitness.
Indian Head Massage – £35
A traditional Indian therapy which uses various techniques on the upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face. Each area is massaged to help release tension, relieve stress, improve circulation, stimulate lymphatic flow and promote well being. The treatment can be provided without the use of oils or with a customised blend of oils.
Holistic Relaxation Therapy at Downe – £80
Created at Downe by our own therapists, this is a truly holistic experience including steam inhalations, hot steam towels, Thai stretching and relaxing massage for the back, feet, neck, scalp and face incorporating the use of essential oils and Repachage facial products selected and blended to suit individual requirements.
Stone at Downe – £90
Stone at Downe is our own therapists interpretation of the traditional stone therapy and provides the ultimate in relaxation. A massage using warm basalt stones smoothed over the ages by the pure clear waters of a Peruvian river. A soothing yet deep and profoundly effective treatment. A full body massage with essential oils to cocoon you in warmth and melt away stress and tension. This is the signature therapy of Downe.

The Seaweed ‘Facial on the Go’ – £52
Exposure to the sun, pollution and daily grime leaves the skin sensitive and dehydrated. This is a rejuvenating and nourishing facial suitable for all skin types. Gentle cleansing with a milk and honey mask is followed by a soothing massage with a seaweed serum rich in vitamin C, minerals and proteins. The facial ends with a cooling and soothing fresh seaweed mask. Skin is clean, refreshed, healthy and vibrant.
The Hydra Dew Facial at Downe – £52
The Hydra Dew Express Lift Moisture Facial will provide immediate, 100 per cent, in-depth moisturisation and superior anti-oxidant protection. Boosts moisture content while combating hyper-pigmentations and wrinkles.
The Hydra Sensitive Skin Facial at Downe – £52
The Hydra 4 facial treatment was specifically designed to calm, soothe and protect ‘traumatised’ skin while helping to decrease skin sensitivity. Olive oil and olive leaf extracts provide superior anti-oxidant protection while nourishing seaweed retrains the skin to be less sensitive and builds resistance to external factors.
This is recommended for reactive, sensitive skins and is designed to soothe, calm and detoxify.
The Hydra Refine Pore Perfecting Facial at Downe – £52
The Hydra Refine Pore Perfecting Facial controls oil, rids skin of impurities and helps to eliminate future breakouts. Seaweed, lemongrass and cucumber leave the skin feeling refreshed, renewed and ultra clean.
The Four Layer Facial at Downe – £59
The Four Layer Facial is the premier anti-ageing treatment. It is a truly luxurious treatment and is suitable for dry/combination skins.
Experience layer upon layer of pure, fresh European seaweed to rejuvenate, tone and help firm the skin. Two massages will soothe, then enjoy a cool pure energy seaweed mask, followed by a mineral-rich thermal mask that allows for total penetration of the layers. The Vita Cura 5 Phase Firming Facial – £59

The Sea Escape Stone Facial & Body Therapy at Downe – £90

The European Seaweed Body Treatment at Downe – £55
The Thalassotherapy Seaweed Body Treatment is based on European Thalassotherapy. Fresh seaweed is warmed to body temperature and then smoothed over the body. Then a warm thermal blanket is wrapped around to help relieve stress and invigorate sore, stiff muscles. After a warm shower, a luxurious cream is massaged into the body leaving the skin silky smooth and leaving you feeling newly recharged and balanced.
The Peppermint Sea Twist Body Wrap at Downe – £50
The Peppermint Sea Twist combines peppermint oil with freshly harvested seaweed to stimulate, rejuvenate and purify the skin. This refreshing body treatment helps contour and firm the body making it great for cellulite.
The Honey Body Polish at Downe – £53
The Honey Body Polish indulges the body with pure honey, almonds and fresh buttermilk. This natural cleanser and exfoliator is massaged on the skin, helping to purify and slough off dead skin cells. After a warm shower, a luxurious seaweed cream is massaged into the body leaving the skin touchable and silky smooth.
The Sea Spa Glow Body Exfoliator at Downe – £53
The Sea Spa Glow Body Exfoliator creates an essential deep pore cleansing from head to toe. Removes rough dry skin and leaves skin smooth and refreshed. After a warm shower, a luxurious cream is massaged into the body leaving the skin silky smooth.
The Atlantic Facial For The Back – £50
This treatment is a Facial for the Back. Skin is cleansed to remove excess oil and debris, then exfoliated to polish dull skin, then massaged with selected essential oils to condition the skin and relieve aches and pains. A customised “back mask” is then applied followed by a moisturiser to complete the therapy.
The Sea Spa Manicure At Downe – £36
The Sea Spa Manicure at Downe is no less than a facial for the hands and offers hands a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. This therapeutic treatment includes an invigorating hand massage featuring a seaweed-based hand cream and a paraffin wax. Leaves hands soft, well-groomed and polished.
This therapeutic treatment includes a cleanse to remove surface debris. Hands are rinsed in water infused with lemon, lime and essential oils. Nails are shaped and buffed and cuticles are tidied. An exfoliant based on marine salts with moisture binding seaweed and olive oil helps to rid the skin of dry dead cells. An relaxing hand and am massage featuring a seaweed- based hand cream is applied to revitalise the hands and a warm paraffin leg wax treatment is given. The paraffin wax treatement nourishes and conditions the nails and skin. The Sea Spa Hand Cream and nourishing oil is then applied. The Therapy leaves hands soft and well-groomed and polished.
As an alternative to the paraffin wax you may prefer to have your nails polished as in a traditional manicure.
The Sea Spa Pedicure At Downe – £36
Similarly the Repachage Sea Spa Pedicure at Downe is no less than a facial for the feet and offers feet a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
This therapeutic treatment begins with a soak in a seaweed bath to improve circulation, revitalise and purify. It includes a cleanse to remove surface debris. Feet are rinsed in water infused with lemon, lime and essential oils. Nails are shaped and buffed and cuticles are tidied. Availability of Therapies
You are able to book therapies at Downe either as stand alone items or as part of a Pamper Day or with lunch or a cream tea, all subject to availability. However we do not take stand alone therapy bookings on a Saturday (because we are normally full with clients having Pamper Days) other than at 9.00 a.m.
Courses of Therapies
If you book six therapies taken over a period of less than three months you benefit from a discount package whereby you pay for the first five therapies as and when they are taken and the six therapy is free.
