Mothers To Be
We are frequently asked “What therapies are suitable for my wife who is pregnant?” or “My wife’s pregnant, can she have a Pamper Day?”. This page attempts to answer those questions and to direct you to suitable Therapies and Pamper Days.
The first thing to note is that the Mother-to-Be’s doctor or midwife is the person who has primary responsibility for the care of the Mother-to-Be and her unborn child. We propose appropriate Therapies and / or a Pamper Day for the Mother-to-Be but we do require the Mother-to-Be to check with her doctor or midwife before she arrives and to obtain their approval of the proposed Therapies and / or use of the Spa equipment (sauna, steam room and spa bath).
Upon arrival at Downe, the Mother-to-Be (as are all of our clients) will be asked to complete a Confidential Medical Questionnaire . She will also be asked to confirm that she has obtained her doctor’s approval of the proposed Therapies and / or the Pamper Day.
Provided there are no complications in the pregnancy, our experience is that most doctors or midwives will approve of the Mother-to-Be having many of the Therapies available at Downe.
Certain Therapies are obviously unsuitable (e.g. the Sea Twist Body Wrap) and others are, just as obviously, unlikely to be unsuitable if care is taken with the choice of cosmetic (e.g. Beauty Facials and a Manicure and Pedicure).
Similarly, our experience is that (provided there are no complications in the pregnancy) most doctors or midwives are content for the Mother-to-Be to use most of the Spa equipment lightly and in moderation i.e. avoiding any discomfort or excessive exposure to heat.
However, in every case it is a decision for the Mother-to-Be’s medical advisor.
The Holistic Relaxation Therapy For Mothers-to-Be – £80
This therapy has been created in house by our own therapists to provide a holistic experience to help reduce the physical and emotional stress of pregnancy.
Specially selected essential oils (which are safe to use during pregnancy or nursing) are used to assist calm, slow breathing. A carefully selected blend of oils containing mandarin and lavender are then used in a soothing massage to help relieve muscular tension, fluid retention, stress and fatigue. They may also assist in the prevention of stretch marks.
Suitable from twelve weeks onwards, the Therapy is an indulgent body and facial treatment. It includes warm steam towels applied to the feet, massage of the feet, legs, arms, hands, stomach (optional), shoulders, neck, scalp and face. Repechage products are used to cleanse and tone before the facial massage.
The treatment concludes with a relaxing back massage and the client is then given time to relax and recover.
In all the Therapy takes ninety minutes and is suitable for Mothers-to-Be after the first twelve weeks of pregnancy and for nursing mothers. The Therapy is adapted by the therapist at every stage to suit the particular Client and the physical limitations arising from pregnancy.
